Open water is the fastest growing swimming activity within the UK and more people are taking part in open water swimming events. Open water swimming coaches will be responsible for planning, coaching and evaluating open water swimming sessions in an open water environment. They will be able to coach swimmers who are new to open water through to those who are training for an open water event. Open water swimming coaches are responsible for ensuring the safety of their swimmers, the open water environment as well as the equipment used.
 
Who does this qualification appeal to?
From dippers to serious triathaletes and those who love open water and want to promote and share their passion by coaching/leading swimmers in an open water environment, STA’s Open Water Swimming Coaching qualification will prepare learners for all aspects of open water swimming coaching, from planning, coaching and evaluating open water swimming sessions.
 
The Course
The STA Award in Open Water Swimming Coaching is tutor assessed through the completion of session plans, session evaluation form, risk assessment and practical coaching in an open water environment. In addition to this there is a Multiple-Choice Question Assessment Paper on the final day of the course.
 
Access to Learning:
To access this course you will need the following:
A computer, laptop, tablet or phone with functioning mic and camera to join Zoom for theory and access your e-manual 
Access to the practical face to face bringing your own full swim kit

Pre-requesties
-Be at least 18 years old
-Hold current membership to STA
-Submit a CV of open water experience. See above, don't worry you don't have to be an Olympic swimmer!
-Hold either a swimming teaching, coaching or triathlon coaching qualification. If not then complete the open water coaching online up-skill programme from the STA, this is a simple online CPD.
